How To Take Care Of Your Lawn

The summer months mean we all spend more time outdoors and in our gardens, and while gardeners may prioritise their plants and flowers, it’s important to give the lawn some TLC too.

From weeding to mowing, there are many jobs to tackle in the garden this summer, and we have a few tips to ensure your lawn looks verdant and such all summer long

The easiest way to maintain your lawn is by regularly mowing it. Mowing the lawn will encourage thick grass to grow, and will also help stop weeds from taking root. If you see any moss that has made its home on your lawn, you should seek out ways to tackle it.

It’s important to ensure your lawn gets fed during the spring and summer months. Choose a lawn fertiliser, and make sure you read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure your lawn continues to look lush and weed-free.

No one wants a patchy, dry, and brown lawn, so ensure it gets enough water to flourish. It might not be always necessary to water the lawn, but it might benefit from it in some cases.

If you do need to water the lawn and maintain a green sward, water the lawn when the soil becomes dry, but before the grass turns yellow and brown, according to the Royal Horticultural Society

You can aerate the ground by spiking it with a garden fork, if it is very hard, to help the water penetrate the soil.

You should aim to water the lawn around once a week to every ten days and make sure that the water reaches a depth of around 10cm/four inches after each watering. At the peak of summer, you need around 20 litres per square metre/square yard every seven days.
